Prophecy of Exile and Rural Restoration

Issachar gathers his sons around his deathbed to deliver a final warning about their future. He foresees a time when his descendants will abandon the honest labor of farming. They will leave their plows and fields to chase wealth and urban corruption. This shift from working the soil to living in crowded cities will bring total ruin.

The aging patriarch predicts his tribe will scatter across vast and unfamiliar foreign territories. This foretold exile mirrors the later Assyrian conquests of the eighth century b.c. Enemy captors will force them to march hundreds of miles away from Canaan. They will serve foreign kings who do not know the God of Israel.

Yet the vision ends with a promise of physical restoration to their ancient home. The Almighty will look upon their suffering and break their heavy iron chains. The descendants of Issachar will walk back to their rocky fields and replant crops. They will rebuild their ruined stone walls and harvest golden wheat once again.

In the last days your children will forsake the plow, leaving their quiet fields to follow spirits of deceit and insatiable greed.

With these final warnings spoken, Issachar draws his last breath and quickly dies. His grieving sons wash his body and carry him to the cave of Machpelah. They bury him beside his fathers deep within a heavy limestone family tomb. His bones rest in the dark earth as his ancient prophecies slowly unfold.
